Scholarships Available to Westran Seniors

Living Memorial Scholarships available to current Westran graduating seniors are listed below. Most scholarship amounts range from $100 to $600 but vary from year to year based on available funds.

A copy of the completed Living Memorial Scholarship application is required for each scholarship. Only one copy of the student transcript is required for the packet of Living Memorial Scholarship applications submitted.

Requirements/Restrictions:

  • applications of current seniors are due to the counselor's office by March 1

  • see specific requirements below for each scholarship

  • scholarships with ** after the name may need a separate page attached to explain applicant's qualifications for that particular scholarship (i.e., for Arel Johnston LMS **, attach a separate page with a paragraph explaining interest and involvement in music.)

  • any dishonest statement made in the application will disqualify the applicant

  • if applicants do not meet requirements, a scholarship may not be given.

  • all Randolph County graduating seniors are eligible

  • preference given, but not limited to, law enforcement majors and culinary food services

  • consideration given to scholastic achievement, community service, and extra curricular activities

  • renewable (must reapply)

David A. Andrews Living Memorial Scholarship

  • no restrictions

  • must be available for interview, if requested

  • renewable (must reapply)

Dr. Paul A. Grigsby & Martha Grigsby Living Memorial Scholarship

  • no restrictions

  • does not have to be a traditional college degree

Irene Mason Living Memorial Scholarship**

  • outstanding work in business classes

    • attach a separate page with a paragraph to explain​

  • preference given, but not limited to, business majors

  • consideration given to grades, ACT score, work experience, and extracurricular activities

Arel Johnston Living Memorial Scholarship**

  • interest in music shown by participation in high school music groups

Westran Alumni Living Memorial Scholarship

  • no restrictions

Woman of the Year Living Memorial Scholarship

  • no restrictions

Gertrude Sears National Honor Society Living Memorial Scholarship

  • NHS membership required

  • special attention given to qualities of leadership, service, and serious attitude toward obtaining higher education

Marvin Seidt Industrial (World of Work) Living Memorial Scholarship**

  • required major in industrial technology or related field/vocation - technical school

  • financial need considered

  • must attend Moberly Area Community College

Claude Burkhart Living Memorial Scholarship

Westran FFA Alumni Living Memorial Scholarship

  • must be current FFA member, dues paid

  • must major in an agriculture related field

  • designated major in health, family life, or related field

  • female scholar

  • in 2020, there will be three scholarships awarded, one being $8,000 ($1,000 each of eight semesters). In order to distribute the Living Memorial Scholarship money among Westran senior LMS applicants, the recipient of the $8,000 must agree to let his/her name be withdrawn from the other LMS scholarship applications. This applies only to the LMS scholarships and only for this application period. (The other LMS scholarships range from $100 to $700.)

Huntsville Horse Show Living Memorial Scholarship**

  • must be  resident of Randolph County

  • must be a senior

  • must be a good citizen

Wiley Ferguson Living Memorial Scholarship**

  • must attend MACC

  • demonstrates financial need, with or without parental help

W. Jason & Guy S. Wright Living Memorial Scholarship**

  • current Westran or Moberly High School Senior who has been active in music classes (does not have to be a music major)

  • must demonstrate qualities of good musicianship, citizenship, and scholarship

  • consideration for financial need is secondary to the above requirements

  • seeking career in health care

  • must have at least a 3.0 GPA

  • preference given to students active in their church

Hershal Hagar Living Memorial Scholarship**

  • pursuing a career in construction or building trade
